Very good. I've had that same thought about newspapers, what if they hadn't been invented yet. I've also had the same thought about 30" TV spots. What if only blogs, customer rating sites, corporate blogs, consumer generated content, online conversations, etc. were the only ways to learn about brands. Then someone came along and said -- hey, I can tell you most of what you need to no in 30 seconds! How cool is that?

Hi Susan:

Good observation.

Social media is often providing better, and more immediate, news coverage than traditional media.
Last night when the plane went off the runway in Denver, the story was covered on Twitter by someone
on the plane as soon as they got off. An amazing & frightening first person narrative. Another POV was
provided by someone sitting on a plane held up on the tarmac by the accident. She was twittering camera phone shots
and relaying what the pilot of her plane was reporting.

No way the NYT could beat that.

Best,
Scott

Twitter (and other social media apps, but specifically Twitter) can get disruptive at times, but I find I get much more out of it than a typical networking event or a BNI meeting. I let TweetDeck (a 3rd party twitter app) run in the background while I'm at work, and check in from time to time on friends, acquaintances and industry leaders. The best description of Twitter I ever heard was that it's a living rolodex that responds to you.

I've found that to be absolutely true.

Garbage in, garbage out. Your fundamental error is your fact input. There are about 300,000,000 people in the U.S., not 300,000. You are talking about giving away $300,000,000,000, That's TRILLION with a T.
I don't think so.
